Q. Explorer Style Directory Listings? I want to display a directory like windows explorer does but inside a vb application. In other words be able to automatically refresh directory contents when it changes and sort by date, etc.. A. The simplest approach to displaying directories and files is to use the Common Dialog Control. Take a few minutes to read over the information on it in the on-line help. To create a real explorer type of interface takes more work. You will need at a minimum a Treeview control for the left pane and a Listview control for the right pane. Then, you may need/want menus, toolbars, status lines, etc. to complete the job. To use the real Explorer itself, look at the Shell function and AppActivate and SendKeys statements in the help files. A good place to look is on Randy Birch`s VBNet site and the other sites he recommends. You can find his URL on the Great Links section. (10-Sept-99 Burt Abreu webmaster@VBExplorer.com)
