ActiveX Calculator

Many thanks to Mark Kirkland who took the time to create this tutorial for our site. Mark is a regular visitor and also created the ProcedureBuilder projects which you can find on our ToolBox page. This example takes you through the creation of a basic control and was kept as simple as possible so you should find it relatively easy to follow.

There is a 'unable to set compatability' message when you load it in VB6 but you just continue and it works fine. Not sure why it started to do this but I'll look into it. You must use the mouse to run the program -doesn't work with the keyboard. This was done on purpose. The idea of this tutorial was not to show how to build a calculator, it was to show how to create an ActiveX.EXE and how to create classes. By adding more and more functionality the code gets harder for a beginner to understand that is why this is a 'minimal' calculator. If you need a calculator sample check out VB-Helper to find a sample or ask on the forums section of my site.

  • Step 1: User Interface
  • Step 2: CCalculator Class
  • Step 3: Putting It Together
